Profile Picker

One handle per line, or separated by commas. A leading @ is optional.

Paste the handles of everyone who entered, one per line or separated by commas, set how many profiles to pick, and the picker shuffles the list and returns the winners in draw order. With four entrants and one prize, every handle has a 25% chance. Repeat entries can be merged so heavy commenters do not get extra tickets.

About this tool

Creators running a giveaway, teachers choosing a student account to feature, and community managers rotating a spotlight all face the same question from their audience: was it fair? This picker takes a pasted list of profile handles, strips leading @ signs, spots repeated names regardless of capital letters, and draws the number of profiles you ask for using a uniform shuffle. Alongside the picks you see how many entries were read, how many repeats were found and the exact chance each entry had, which is easy to quote in a results post. It cannot check whether an account follows you, liked the post or is a bot; it only draws from the names you give it, so clean the list against your giveaway rules first.

How to use it

  1. Add the entrants

Paste handles into the box, one per line or comma-separated, or open a .txt or .csv export of comments.

  2. Set the number of picks

Use the − and + buttons to choose how many profiles to draw, from 1 to 50.

  3. Decide on repeats

Leave Count each profile once ticked to merge repeats, or untick it when extra entries are part of your rules.

  4. Read the draw

The picked handles appear at the top in draw order, so the first is the winner and the rest are runners-up.

Examples

One winner from four followers

Profiles in the draw
@maya.draws @sam_bakes @lina.trips @omar.fit
Profiles to pick
1
Count each profile once
Yes

Result Picked profiles: @omar.fit
Entries read: 4
Entries in the draw: 4
Repeated entries: 0
Chance per entry: 25%

  1. Read 4 entries; 0 repeat an earlier handle (case ignored).
  2. Duplicates removed, 4 entries go into the draw.
  3. Shuffled the entries uniformly and took the first 1.
  4. Chance per entry = 1 ÷ 4 = 25%.

Each of the four handles has the same 25% chance of being the first pick.

Comment list with repeat commenters

Profiles in the draw
anna, @Anna, ben, cara, ben, dev
Profiles to pick
2
Count each profile once
Yes

Result Picked profiles: @ben, @dev
Entries read: 6
Entries in the draw: 4
Repeated entries: 2
Chance per entry: 50%

  1. Read 6 entries; 2 repeat an earlier handle (case ignored).
  2. Duplicates removed, 4 entries go into the draw.
  3. Shuffled the entries uniformly and took the first 2.
  4. Chance per entry = 2 ÷ 4 = 50%.

Anna and Ben commented twice; counted once each, four people share two prizes, a 50% chance each.

Extra entries allowed

Profiles in the draw

Profiles to pick

Count each profile once
No

Result Picked profiles: @ben
Entries read: 4
Entries in the draw: 4
Repeated entries: 1
Chance per entry: 25%

  1. Read 4 entries; 1 repeat an earlier handle (case ignored).
  2. Duplicates kept, 4 entries go into the draw.
  3. Shuffled the entries uniformly and took the first 1.
  4. Chance per entry = 1 ÷ 4 = 25%.

With repeats kept, Ben holds two of the four tickets, and a note says so.

How it is calculated

chance per entry = k ÷ n

k
number of profiles picked (capped at n)
n
entries in the draw after optional merging of repeats

Entries are split at line breaks, commas and semicolons, trimmed, and a leading @ is dropped. Repeats are matched without regard to letter case. The entries are then shuffled with the Fisher–Yates method, which makes every ordering equally likely, and the first k are taken. Because the draw is without replacement, nobody can be picked twice unless they appear twice in a list where repeats are kept.

When not to use it

  • Prize draws regulated by law may need an independent or audited drawing process.
  • If entry rules require follows or likes, this picker cannot verify them for you.

Common mistakes

  • Pasting a comment export that still contains the comment text, so each sentence becomes an entry.
  • Keeping repeat comments in the draw when the giveaway promised one entry per person.

Frequently asked questions

How are duplicate handles detected?

After trimming spaces and removing a leading @, two entries match if they are the same ignoring capital letters, so @Anna and anna count as one person. Look-alike handles such as anna_ and anna are treated as different accounts.

Can the same profile win twice?

Not when Count each profile once is ticked. Picks are drawn without replacement, so a profile can only appear twice in the results if it appears twice in the list and repeats are kept.

What happens if I ask for more picks than entrants?

Every entry is picked in a random order and a note explains that the request was larger than the list. The chance per entry then shows 100%.

How do I prove the draw was fair?

Share the entry count and the chance per entry from the results, and consider recording your screen while you paste the list and draw. The shuffle gives every ordering the same probability.

Is the list of handles uploaded anywhere?

No. The list is read and shuffled in your browser, and opened text files are read locally as well.

Why does a repeat warning appear?

When repeats are kept, a profile listed three times holds three tickets. The note tells you how many extra entries exist so you can decide whether that matches your rules.
