The best time to post on Instagram is the slot where your own followers engage most. Paste past posts as weekday, time and engagement: if Monday 18:00 got 300 and Wednesday 18:30 got 500, evenings average 400 and Wednesday 18:00–21:00 comes out on top, with a note on how many posts back it.

About this tool

Published charts of peak Instagram hours average millions of accounts across every niche and time zone, so they rarely match a bakery in Lisbon or a gaming creator in Manila. Your own history is the better guide. Log each post with its weekday, the time it went out and one engagement figure, and this tool groups them into weekday and 3-hour blocks, averages each group and names the strongest slot. It also lists every weekday you posted on, the best block within each day, and how far the winning slot sits above your overall mean. If most followers live in another time zone, shift the times so the result reads in their clock. The limit is sample size: a slot backed by one or two posts can be a fluke, and the tool says so.

How to use it

  1. List your posts

Type or paste one post per line as weekday, time and engagement, such as Thu 7:15 pm 380, or open a .txt or .csv file.

  2. Pick one measure

Use the same engagement figure for every line, for example likes plus comments from Instagram Insights.

  3. Shift the clock if needed

Enter the hours between your logged times and your audience's zone, positive if they are ahead.

  4. Read the slot and table

Check the best slot, the per-weekday table and any warning about thin data before planning your schedule.

Result Best slot to post: Wednesday 18:00–21:00
Best weekday overall: Wednesday
Best time block overall: 18:00–21:00
Mean engagement in best slot: 500
Above your overall mean: 81.8%
Posts read: 4

  1. Read 4 post(s).
  2. Grouped posts by weekday and 3-hour block and took the mean engagement of each group.
  3. Top slot: Wednesday 18:00–21:00, mean 500 over 1 post(s), against an overall mean of 275.

The single Wednesday evening post scored highest, and evenings win across both days, so the tool points to Wednesday 18:00–21:00 while warning that one post is thin evidence.

  1. Read 2 post(s); shifted every time by +3 h.
  2. Grouped posts by weekday and 3-hour block and took the mean engagement of each group.
  3. Top slot: Monday 00:00–03:00, mean 100 over 1 post(s), against an overall mean of 75.

A Sunday 22:00 post lands at 01:00 on Monday for followers three hours ahead, so the slot is reported in their week.

How it is calculated

slot mean = sum of engagement in slot ÷ posts in slot; best slot = highest slot mean; lift = best mean ÷ overall mean − 1

slot
a weekday plus a 3-hour block, such as Wednesday 18:00–21:00 (56 slots per week)
engagement
the number you logged for each post, such as likes, comments, saves or reach
overall mean
the average engagement of every post you entered

Each line is read as weekday, hour and engagement; 12-hour times with am or pm are converted to 24-hour. The optional shift moves every post along the week, so 22:00 Sunday plus 3 hours becomes 01:00 Monday. Posts are grouped by weekday and 3-hour block, and the group with the highest mean wins. Weekday and block winners are also found separately, which helps when the top slot rests on very few posts.

When not to use it

  • With fewer than about ten logged posts, the averages are too noisy to rank slots.
  • If a post was boosted with paid promotion, its engagement reflects the ad budget rather than the posting time.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing measures, such as likes for some lines and reach for others.
  • Logging fresh posts alongside week-old ones, so recent posts look weaker than they are.
  • Forgetting that Instagram Insights shows times in your phone's zone, not your followers' zone.

Frequently asked questions

What do the general studies say about peak Instagram hours?

Industry reports from social media scheduling companies usually point to weekday mornings and late afternoons, but each uses different accounts and engagement measures. Treat them as a starting schedule, then log your own posts here to see whether your audience follows the same pattern.

Which engagement number should I log?

Any single figure you can read for every post works: likes, likes plus comments, saves, or reach after 48 hours. Consistency matters more than the choice, because the tool only compares slots against each other.

Why use 3-hour blocks instead of exact hours?

Most accounts post a few times a week, so single hours would hold one post each and the ranking would follow luck. Three-hour blocks pool nearby posts while still separating morning, lunch, evening and late night.

How does the time zone shift work?

Every post is moved by the number of hours you enter, wrapping across midnight and across the week. A Sunday 22:00 post shifted by +3 becomes Monday 01:00, so the result describes your followers' week rather than yours.

What time formats can I type?

Start each line with the weekday name or its first three letters, then a time such as 18:30, 6pm or 6:30 pm, then the engagement number. Commas in numbers like 1,200 are fine. Lines that cannot be read are skipped and counted in a warning.

Does posting at the best time guarantee more reach?

No. Content, format, hashtags and the Reels or feed ranking all move engagement more than the clock does. The slot shows where your past posts did best on average, which is one input to a schedule.
