A single minute

Result Seconds: 60
- 1 min × 60 = 60 s
The minute is defined as exactly 60 SI seconds, so one minute is 60 seconds with no rounding.
To turn minutes into seconds, multiply by 60, because one minute is defined as exactly 60 seconds. For example, 4.5 minutes is 4.5 × 60 = 270 seconds. Decimal minutes convert the same way, so a quarter minute (0.25) is 15 seconds.
| min | s |
|---|---|
| 1 | 60 |
| 2 | 120 |
| 5 | 300 |
| 10 | 600 |
| 20 | 1,200 |
| 25 | 1,500 |
| 50 | 3,000 |
| 100 | 6,000 |
| 250 | 15,000 |
| 500 | 30,000 |
| 1,000 | 60,000 |
Timers, video editors, interval workouts and lab protocols often ask for a duration as a count of seconds, while people think and note times in minutes. This converter multiplies the minutes you type by 60 and shows the seconds straight away, along with the multiplication it used. It accepts decimal minutes, which is where most slips happen: 1.5 minutes is 90 seconds, not 150. The factor is exact, so the result carries no conversion error beyond what you enter. It does not parse a clock-style value such as 3:45; split that into 3 minutes plus 45 seconds, or enter 3.75 minutes.
Enter the duration in the Minutes field, using a decimal point for part-minutes, such as 0.75 for three quarters of a minute.
The seconds value updates as you type, with the multiplication by 60 shown underneath.

Result Seconds: 60
The minute is defined as exactly 60 SI seconds, so one minute is 60 seconds with no rounding.
Result Seconds: 150
Fitness apps often time holds in seconds; two and a half minutes is 150 seconds.
Result Seconds: 3,600
An hour of 60 minutes holds 3,600 seconds, the figure used when converting speeds from per-hour to per-second.
seconds = minutes × 60
minutessecondsThe SI brochure and NIST SP 811 list the minute as a unit accepted for use with the SI, equal to exactly 60 seconds. There is no offset and no rounding in the factor, so the conversion is a single multiplication. Leap seconds affect clock time on particular days, not the length of a minute used as a unit of duration.
Five minutes is 300 seconds, because 5 × 60 = 300. Ten minutes is 600 seconds and fifteen minutes is 900 seconds.
Convert the whole minutes first, 3 × 60 = 180, then add the 45 seconds for a total of 225 seconds. You can also enter 3.75 minutes here and get the same 225.
As a unit of duration, yes. A UTC clock minute that contains a leap second runs to 61 seconds, but that is a timekeeping adjustment on a specific date, not a change in the unit.
An hour is 60 minutes, so it holds 60 × 60 = 3,600 seconds. A full day of 1,440 minutes holds 86,400 seconds.
A tenth of a minute is 6 seconds. Stopwatches that show decimal minutes, common in industrial time studies, rely on this: each 0.01 minute is 0.6 seconds.
