An hour of seconds
- Seconds
- 3600
Result Minutes: 60
- 3,600 s × 0.0166667 = 60 min
3,600 seconds is 60 minutes, the length of one hour, which is a handy check when a stopwatch or log file reports raw seconds.
To convert seconds to minutes, divide the number of seconds by 60, because one minute is exactly 60 seconds. For example, 450 seconds ÷ 60 = 7.5 minutes, which is 7 minutes and 30 seconds. The result is a decimal minute, so multiply the fractional part by 60 to read leftover seconds.
| s | min |
|---|---|
| 1 | 0.016667 |
| 2 | 0.033333 |
| 5 | 0.083333 |
| 10 | 0.166667 |
| 20 | 0.333333 |
| 25 | 0.416667 |
| 50 | 0.833333 |
| 100 | 1.66667 |
| 250 | 4.16667 |
| 500 | 8.33333 |
| 1,000 | 16.6667 |
Video editors, coaches timing intervals, developers reading timeouts and students checking physics homework all meet durations written as a raw count of seconds. This converter divides that count by 60 and shows the decimal number of minutes as you type, together with the division it used. The answer is a decimal: 150 seconds appears as 2.5 minutes, not 2:30, so convert the fractional part back to seconds yourself if you need a clock-style reading. The converter assumes the fixed 60-second SI-accepted minute; leap seconds added to UTC are not modelled. Use the swap button to turn minutes back into seconds.
Enter the duration in the Seconds field. Decimals such as 12.5 work for split times.
The minute value updates while you type, with the division by 60 shown underneath.

Result Minutes: 60
3,600 seconds is 60 minutes, the length of one hour, which is a handy check when a stopwatch or log file reports raw seconds.
Result Minutes: 1.5
90 seconds is 1.5 minutes, which reads as one minute and thirty seconds, not 1 minute 50.
Result Minutes: 16.6667
1,000 seconds is about 16.67 minutes, or 16 minutes and 40 seconds once the decimal part is multiplied back by 60.
minutes = seconds ÷ 60
secondsminutesThe minute is a non-SI unit accepted for use with the SI and defined as exactly 60 seconds, so the factor is exact: one second is 1/60 of a minute, about 0.0166667. Dividing by 60 gives decimal minutes. To write the result as minutes and seconds, keep the whole number, then multiply the remaining fraction by 60; 0.75 of a minute is 45 seconds.
100 seconds is 1.6667 minutes, which is 1 minute and 40 seconds. Divide 100 by 60 to get the decimal, then multiply the 0.6667 remainder by 60 to recover the 40 seconds.
Keep the whole number as minutes and multiply the decimal part by 60. For 4.25 minutes, 0.25 × 60 = 15, so the time is 4 minutes 15 seconds.
In ordinary use, yes. The only exception is a UTC minute that receives a leap second and lasts 61 seconds; these are announced by the IERS and have been rare in recent years.
An hour has 60 minutes of 60 seconds each, so 3,600 seconds. Entering 3600 here returns 60 minutes.
Stopwatches use a base-60 clock format of minutes and seconds. 1:30 and 1.5 minutes are the same duration written two ways; this converter gives the decimal form.
