Paste text and it is returned in capital letters while you type. Digits, punctuation and spacing stay as they were. Letters without a single capital are expanded, so Straße becomes STRASSE, seven characters instead of six. A Turkish option turns istanbul into İSTANBUL with the dot kept.

About this tool

All-caps text turns up in headings, legal clauses, signage drafts, spreadsheet codes and programming constants such as MAXRETRYCOUNT. Retyping it by hand invites typos, and the Caps Lock key does nothing for text you already have. This converter applies the Unicode uppercase mapping to every letter, reports how many letters changed and how many characters the result has, and lists any letter that expands into two, such as German ß. Greek, Cyrillic and accented Latin letters convert as well. One limit: scripts without capital letters, including Arabic, Hebrew and Chinese, come back unchanged, because there is nothing to capitalise.

How to use it

  1. Enter the text

Type, paste, or open a .txt file from your device into the text box.

  2. Pick the letter rules

Keep Standard Unicode for most languages, or choose Turkish / Azeri so i becomes İ.

  3. Check the counts

Compare characters before and after; the table lists letters that grew into two.

  4. Copy the capitals

Use Copy result to paste the uppercase text where you need it.

Examples

A German street name

Text to capitalise
Straße
Letter rules
Standard Unicode

Result Uppercase text: STRASSE
Letters changed: 5
Characters before: 6
Characters after: 7
Lines: 1

  1. Mapping used: Unicode default (i becomes I).
  2. 5 of 6 characters were lowercase and changed; digits, punctuation and spaces stay as they are.

ß has no single capital in the default mapping, so Straße becomes STRASSE and gains one character.

istanbul with Turkish rules

Text to capitalise
istanbul
Letter rules
Turkish / Azeri

Result Uppercase text: İSTANBUL
Letters changed: 8
Characters before: 8
Characters after: 8
Lines: 1

  1. Mapping used: Turkish/Azeri (i becomes İ, ı becomes I).
  2. 8 of 8 characters were lowercase and changed; digits, punctuation and spaces stay as they are.

Under Turkish rules the dotted i keeps its dot as a capital, giving İSTANBUL rather than ISTANBUL.

A code constant

Text to capitalise
max_retry_count = 5
Letter rules
Standard Unicode

Result Uppercase text: MAX_RETRY_COUNT = 5
Letters changed: 13
Characters before: 19
Characters after: 19
Lines: 1

  1. Mapping used: Unicode default (i becomes I).
  2. 13 of 19 characters were lowercase and changed; digits, punctuation and spaces stay as they are.

Underscores, the equals sign and the digit stay as typed; only the 13 letters change.

How it is calculated

output = each character replaced by its Unicode uppercase mapping (full case mapping, SpecialCasing.txt)

simple mapping
one lowercase letter to one capital, e.g. a to A, é to É, ж to Ж
special mapping
a letter whose capital is a sequence, e.g. ß to SS, ʼn to ʼN
Turkish rule
locale-specific pair: i to İ (U+0130) and ı to I

Each character is looked up in the Unicode Character Database. Letters with a capital form are replaced; everything else, including numbers, symbols, emoji and uncased scripts, passes through untouched. The full mapping can lengthen text, which matters for fields with a character limit. The Turkish option applies the language-specific rules that keep the dot on a capital i.

When not to use it

  • For title case or sentence case, where only some letters should be capitals, a dedicated case tool fits better.
  • For passwords or case-sensitive identifiers, converting changes the value and may break a login or lookup.

Common mistakes

  • Using standard rules on Turkish names, which turns istanbul into ISTANBUL and loses the dotted İ.
  • Pasting the result into a field with a strict length limit without noticing that ß expanded to SS.
  • Setting long paragraphs in capitals, which slows reading compared with mixed case.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my text get longer after conversion?

Some lowercase letters have no single capital. German ß becomes SS, and a few ligatures such as fi become FI. The characters-after count and the table show exactly which letters expanded.

What does the Turkish option change?

Turkish and Azeri have two separate letters: dotted i and dotless ı. Their capitals are İ and I. The standard rule maps i to plain I, which is wrong for those languages, so the option keeps the dot.

Do numbers and symbols change?

No. Digits, punctuation, spaces, line breaks and emoji are copied as they are. Only characters that have an uppercase form in Unicode are replaced.

Can it capitalise Greek or Russian text?

Yes. Greek, Cyrillic, Armenian and accented Latin letters all have capitals in Unicode and convert, so привет becomes ПРИВЕТ and καλημέρα becomes ΚΑΛΗΜΈΡΑ with the accent kept.

Why is my Arabic or Chinese text unchanged?

Those writing systems have no uppercase and lowercase distinction. The converter leaves them as they are and shows a note that nothing changed.

Is the text uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, and the text is not stored after you leave the page.
