Choose an invisible Unicode character and how many you need, then copy the blank result. The Hangul filler, U+3164, is the common choice for an empty name; a single one takes 3 UTF-8 bytes. You can also slip one between each letter of a word, so hello gets four hidden characters.

About this tool

Gamers wanting a blank nickname, people sending an empty-looking message, and developers testing how a form handles whitespace all need a character that prints as nothing. Typing one is awkward because most keyboards cannot produce it. This generator builds a string of one of six blank code points, from the Hangul filler and Braille pattern blank to the zero width space, and reports the code point, the character name and how many UTF-8 bytes the string uses. A second mode places the chosen character between every letter of your own text. One limit: each app decides for itself which blanks to accept, and many trim or reject zero width characters, so test the result where you plan to use it.

How to use it

  1. Pick a mode

Choose Blank string for empty text, or Insert into my text to hide characters between letters.

  2. Choose the character

Select one of six blank code points; the Hangul filler and Braille blank survive name filters most often.

  3. Set the amount or the text

Use the stepper for how many blanks, or type the word to spread them through.

  4. Copy the result

Use Copy result and paste it where you need it; the code point and byte count are shown beside it.

Examples

A single blank name character

What to make
Blank string
Invisible character
Hangul filler U+3164
How many
1

Result Invisible text (copy it): ㅤ
Code point: U+3164
Character name: Hangul filler
Invisible characters: 1
UTF-8 bytes: 3

  1. Repeated U+3164 1 times.
  2. Each Hangul filler takes 3 UTF-8 bytes, so the invisible part is 3 bytes.

One Hangul filler is the usual pick for a blank game or chat name, and it takes three bytes.

Five no-break spaces

What to make
Blank string
Invisible character
No-break space U+00A0
How many
5

Result Invisible text (copy it):
Code point: U+00A0
Character name: No-break space
Invisible characters: 5
UTF-8 bytes: 10

  1. Repeated U+00A0 5 times.
  2. Each No-break space takes 2 UTF-8 bytes, so the invisible part is 10 bytes.

Useful for padding a line where ordinary spaces would collapse; each one is two bytes.

Zero width spaces inside hello

What to make
Insert into my text
Invisible character
Zero width space U+200B
Your text
hello

Result Invisible text (copy it): hello
Code point: U+200B
Character name: Zero width space
Invisible characters: 4
UTF-8 bytes: 12

  1. Split the text into 5 visible characters.
  2. Placed one U+200B between each pair: 4 inserted.
  3. Each Zero width space takes 3 UTF-8 bytes, so the invisible part is 12 bytes.

Four zero width spaces sit between the five letters, so the word looks unchanged but no longer matches a plain search for hello.

How it is calculated

bytes = number of invisible characters × UTF-8 length of the code point

code point
the Unicode number of the blank character, such as U+3164
UTF-8 length
2 bytes for U+0080 to U+07FF and 3 bytes for U+0800 to U+FFFF, per RFC 3629

Blank mode repeats the chosen code point the number of times you set. Insert mode splits your text into visible characters, using grapheme rules so accented letters and emoji stay whole, and joins them with the blank character, giving one fewer blank than letters. Byte counts matter because some platforms limit names by bytes rather than by characters.

When not to use it

  • Avoid hiding characters in passwords, since you may not be able to type them again later.
  • Do not use blanks to dodge moderation or impersonate another account; platforms treat that as abuse.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming every app accepts the zero width space, when many strip it and leave an empty field.
  • Forgetting that text with hidden characters no longer matches searches or exact-string comparisons.

Frequently asked questions

Which invisible character works best for a blank game name?

The Hangul filler, U+3164, is accepted by many games and chat apps because it counts as a letter rather than whitespace. The Braille pattern blank, U+2800, is the usual fallback when the filler is rejected.

Why does an app say my name is empty?

The app trims whitespace and zero width characters before checking the field. Switch to a character it treats as printable, such as the Hangul filler or Braille blank, and try again.

What is a zero width space for?

U+200B marks a place where a long word or URL may break across lines without showing a space. Because it has no width, it is also used to hide a break inside a word.

How many bytes does each blank take?

Under UTF-8 the no-break space takes 2 bytes, and the Hangul filler, Braille blank, em space and zero width characters take 3 bytes each. The byte total is shown under the result.

Can I find hidden characters in text someone sent me?

This page creates them rather than detecting them. Pasting the text into a code editor that shows Unicode escapes, or a character counter, will reveal a length longer than the visible letters.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The string is built in your browser, the text you type for Insert mode stays on your device, and nothing is stored after you leave the page.
