Type a word and the generator writes it the way it looks in a mirror: the characters run right to left and letters with a mirrored Unicode twin are swapped, so bad becomes bɒd. Two other styles reverse only the characters (stressed becomes desserts) or only the word order.

About this tool

Mirror writing turns up in bios, usernames, puzzle hunts and the AMBULANCE lettering on vehicle bonnets that drivers read in their rear-view mirror. Reversing the string alone is not enough for that look, because a reversed b still faces right. This generator reverses each line and then substitutes letters that have a mirrored counterpart in Unicode, such as ɘ for e, Я for R and ꟻ for F. It also offers plain character reversal and word-order reversal. One limit: Unicode has no mirrored form for some letters, like lowercase f and n-shaped glyphs, so those stay as typed, and a few substitutes may show as boxes on older phones.

How to use it

  1. Enter the text

Type or paste into the box; each line is mirrored on its own.

  2. Pick a style

Choose Mirror letters, Reverse characters or Reverse words.

  3. Copy the output

Use Copy result and paste the mirrored text into a post, profile or document.

Examples

stressed, read backwards

Your text
stressed
Mirror style
Reverse characters

Result Mirrored text: desserts
Style: Reverse characters
Characters: 8
Letters swapped for look-alikes: 0
Lines: 1

  1. Split the text into 1 line and treat each line on its own.
  2. Reverse the order of the 8 characters (emoji and accented letters stay whole).

Reversing the eight letters of stressed spells desserts, a classic word that turns into another word in a mirror.

Mirror letters on bad

Your text
bad
Mirror style
Mirror letters

Result Mirrored text: bɒd
Style: Mirror letters
Characters: 3
Letters swapped for look-alikes: 3
Lines: 1

  1. Split the text into 1 line and treat each line on its own.
  2. Reverse the order of the 3 characters (emoji and accented letters stay whole).
  3. Replace 3 characters with a facing-the-other-way look-alike, such as b to d and R to Я.

The word is reversed to dab, then d becomes b, a becomes the turned ɒ and b becomes d, so it reads correctly in a mirror.

Word order flipped

Your text
hello big world
Mirror style
Reverse words

Result Mirrored text: world big hello
Style: Reverse words
Characters: 15
Letters swapped for look-alikes: 0
Lines: 1

  1. Split the text into 1 line and treat each line on its own.
  2. Reverse the order of the words in each line; letters inside each word stay as typed.

Each word keeps its spelling; only the order changes, which is handy for word puzzles.

How it is calculated

output = map(reverse(graphemes of each line)) in mirror style; reverse only in the other two

graphemes
user-perceived characters, so an emoji or accented letter is moved as one unit
map
a table of about 40 substitutions, such as b to d, e to ɘ, R to Я and ( to )

Each line is split into graphemes and their order is reversed. In Mirror letters style every character found in the look-alike table is then replaced by its facing-the-other-way twin; symmetrical letters like A, H, o and x need no change. Reverse words splits on whitespace and flips the order of the pieces, keeping spacing between them.

When not to use it

  • For printing text to read through glass, a mirrored font or the print dialog's mirror option keeps letter shapes consistent.
  • Screen readers spell out substituted Unicode letters oddly, so avoid mirror text where accessibility matters.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting every letter to change, when symmetrical letters like o, x and H already look the same in a mirror.
  • Pasting mirrored text into a field that strips non-Latin characters, which drops letters such as Я.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the AMBULANCE sign on vehicles look like this?

It is painted in mirror writing so a driver ahead reads it the right way round in a rear-view mirror. The Mirror letters style produces the same effect for any word you type.

Which letters get replaced?

Letters with a recognisable mirrored twin in Unicode: for example b and d trade places, e becomes ɘ, s becomes ꙅ, R becomes Я, N becomes И and brackets turn round. Letters that are already symmetrical stay as they are.

Will mirrored text show up on Instagram or TikTok?

Usually yes, because the substitutes are ordinary Unicode characters. Some rare ones such as ꟻ or ꟼ may display as empty boxes on devices whose fonts lack them.

What is the difference between the three styles?

Mirror letters reverses and swaps glyphs. Reverse characters only runs the text backwards, so stressed reads desserts. Reverse words keeps each word's spelling and flips their order, so hello big world becomes world big hello.

Does it handle emoji and accented letters?

Yes. The text is split into whole characters before reversing, so an emoji or a letter with an accent moves as one piece instead of breaking into stray code units.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The mirroring runs entirely in your browser and the text is not stored once you leave the page.
