Fill in who you help, the problem they have, what you do and what sets you apart, and the generator joins them into a short spoken pitch. A five-part pitch of 43 words takes about 18 seconds at 140 words per minute, leaving room to pause inside a 30-second window.

About this tool

Founders at a networking event, job seekers at a career fair and sales staff on a cold call all face the same question: what do you do? A good answer names a listener, a problem and a fix in under half a minute. This generator asks for each piece separately, then assembles them in the order listeners follow most easily: who you are, who you help and why, what you do, how you differ, and what you want next. It reports the word count and the time it takes to say aloud, and warns when the pitch runs long or has no closing ask. It works only with your own phrases; it does not invent claims, research your market or judge whether the idea is persuasive.

How to use it

  1. Name yourself and the product

Enter your first name and the product or company you are pitching.

  2. Describe the listener and the problem

Write who it helps and finish the sentence about their problem in plain words.

  3. Add what you do and the ask

Describe your fix, optionally what sets you apart, and the next step you want.

  4. Pick the opening and rehearse

Choose a casual or formal greeting, then read the pitch aloud against the speaking time.

  1. Structure: introduction, who it helps and their problem, what you do, what sets you apart, and the ask.
  2. Speaking time = 43 words ÷ 140 words per minute × 60 = 18 s.

All five parts filled in give 43 words, about 18 seconds spoken at 140 words per minute, well inside a 30-second ride.

Speaking time: 11 s

  1. Structure: introduction, who it helps and their problem, what you do, with no ask.
  2. Speaking time = 25 words ÷ 140 words per minute × 60 = 11 s.

Leaving out the difference and the ask gives a 25-word pitch and a warning that the listener has no next step.

How it is calculated

speaking time (s) = words ÷ 140 × 60

words
words in the assembled pitch, counted by Unicode word rules
140
a typical conversational speaking rate in words per minute

The pitch is built from fixed sentence frames: an introduction, then '[product] helps [audience] who [problem]', then 'We [solution]', an optional 'Unlike other options' line and your closing ask. Trailing full stops and commas you type are removed so the frames do not double the punctuation. Speaking time assumes a relaxed 140 words per minute; nervous speakers often run faster, so the real delivery may be shorter.

When not to use it

  • For a formal investor deck, where a written summary with figures carries more weight than a spoken line.
  • When the audience is technical and expects detail that a 30-second frame cannot hold.

Common mistakes

  • Describing features in the problem field instead of the pain the listener actually feels.
  • Ending without an ask, which leaves a pleasant conversation with no next step.
  • Naming an audience so broad, such as everyone, that no listener recognises themselves.

Frequently asked questions

How long should an elevator pitch be?

Most coaching advice puts it at 30 to 60 seconds. At 140 words per minute that is roughly 70 to 140 words, so the generator warns once a pitch passes 90 words, about 39 seconds.

Why does the problem come before the solution?

A listener cares about the fix only after recognising the problem. Naming the audience and their pain first gives the solution sentence something to answer.

What makes a good closing ask?

Something small and specific that is easy to say yes to, such as a 15-minute call next week, a demo, or exchanging contact details. A vague line like let me know leaves the next move to the listener.

Can I use it for a job-seeker pitch?

Yes. Put your role as the product, the hiring team as the audience, their hiring problem as the problem, and your skills as what you do.

Should I memorise the pitch word for word?

Rehearse it until the structure is automatic, then speak it in your own rhythm. A word-perfect recital often sounds scripted, while a known order of ideas sounds confident.

Is what I type sent anywhere?

No. The pitch is assembled in your browser from your own words, and nothing is saved when you leave the page.
