Enter your product, who it serves, the result it delivers and the thing only you offer, and the generator joins them into a core USP plus benefit-first, audience-first and tagline versions. Acme Books, freelancers, send invoices in two minutes, without a monthly fee gives a 13-word core line.

About this tool

A unique selling proposition answers one question for a stranger: why this, and not the alternative? Founders, copywriters and marketing students usually know the answer but bury it in a paragraph. This generator forces the answer into four parts, the product, the buyer, the result and the differentiator, then rearranges them into several angles so you can compare a benefit-led headline against an audience-led one side by side. Each version shows its word and character count, which matters when the line has to fit an ad headline or a store listing. Add a customer problem or a proof point and two more versions appear. The tool only rearranges what you type; it cannot judge whether your differentiator is truly unique, so check competitors before you print it.

How to use it

  1. Name the product and buyer

Type the product or business name and the group it is for, such as freelancers or busy parents.

  2. State the result and the edge

Write the main result as a verb phrase and finish the sentence with what only you offer.

  3. Add a problem or proof

Optionally fill in a customer problem and a proof point to get two extra angles.

  4. Compare the versions

Read the table, check word and character counts, and switch to Title Case for headline use.

When not to use it

  • If you have not yet found what sets you apart, the template cannot invent it for you.
  • Regulated claims such as health or financial results need legal review, not just a tidy sentence.

Common mistakes

  • Using a differentiator every competitor can also claim, such as great service.
  • Writing the benefit as a feature list instead of a result the customer feels.
  • Stuffing several benefits into one line until it runs past 20 words.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a selling proposition unique?

Rosser Reeves, who coined the term in the 1940s, set three tests: the line makes a specific promise, the competition cannot or does not offer it, and it is strong enough to move buyers. The differentiator field is where the second test lives.

How long should a USP be?

Most memorable ones fit in about 10 to 20 words. Google search ad headlines allow 30 characters each, so the short tagline version is the one to try there.

Should I write the benefit or the feature?

The benefit. A feature is what the product has, such as automatic reminders; the benefit is what the buyer gets, such as being paid on time. Phrase the result as something the customer can do.

Is a USP the same as a slogan?

No. A USP is the strategic claim of difference, often used internally and on landing pages. A slogan is a catchy expression of it. The short tagline row here is a starting point for a slogan.

Why do some versions read awkwardly?

The templates join your phrases literally. If the differentiator starts with a preposition such as with or without, every version flows; a full sentence in that field will not.

Is anything I type sent to a server?

No. The sentences are assembled in your browser from your own phrases, with no language model involved, so the same inputs always give the same lines.
