Multiply the levels you will gain by the stat points awarded per level, then add any points you start with and any quest or item bonuses. A Diablo II character going from level 1 to 99 gains 98 levels at 5 points each, 490 points, plus 15 from the three Lam Esen's Tome quests: 505 in total.

About this tool

Most level-based RPGs hand out a fixed number of attribute points on every level-up, and planning a build means knowing how many you will have before you commit them to strength, dexterity or vitality. Enter your current level, the level you are planning for, the points each level grants, any unallocated points you already hold and bonus points from quests or consumables. The calculator gives the total pool at the target level, the share that comes from levelling, and how many remain after the points you have already placed. It assumes a flat award per level; games that change the award at level thresholds, or that grant points by class or race, need each band entered as its own run and the totals added.

How to use it

  1. Set the level range

Enter the level you are at now (or 1 for a fresh character) and the level you are planning for.

  2. Enter points per level

Use the stepper to set how many attribute points the game awards on each level-up.

  3. Add starting and bonus points

Include unspent points you already hold and any extra from quests, books or items.

  4. Subtract what is spent

Enter the points already allocated to see how many are left to place.

Examples

Diablo II character at level 99

Starting level
1
Target level
99
Stat points per level
5
Points you start with
0
Bonus points (quests, items)
15
Points already spent
0

Result Total stat points at target level: 505
Levels gained: 98
Points from levelling: 490
Points left to allocate: 505
Average points per level gained: 5.15

  1. Levels gained = 99 − 1 = 98
  2. Points from levels = 98 × 5 = 490
  3. Total = 490 + 0 starting + 15 bonus = 505
  4. Unspent = 505 − 0 spent = 505

Ninety-eight level-ups at 5 points give 490, and the three Lam Esen's Tome rewards add 15, for 505 points in total.

Level 10 to 40 at 3 points a level

Starting level
10
Target level
40
Stat points per level
3
Points you start with
20
Bonus points (quests, items)
0
Points already spent
50

Result Total stat points at target level: 110
Levels gained: 30
Points from levelling: 90
Points left to allocate: 60
Average points per level gained: 3.67

  1. Levels gained = 40 − 10 = 30
  2. Points from levels = 30 × 3 = 90
  3. Total = 90 + 20 starting + 0 bonus = 110
  4. Unspent = 110 − 50 spent = 60

Thirty level-ups at 3 points add 90 to the 20 already held, giving 110; with 50 spent, 60 remain to place.

How it is calculated

Total = (L_target − L_start) × P + S + B; Unspent = Total − Spent

L_target
level you are planning for
L_start
level you are at now
P
stat points awarded per level-up
S
unallocated points held at the starting level
B
bonus points from quests, items or events

Each level-up between the two levels awards the same number of points, so the levelling share is a single multiplication. Points held at the start and one-off bonuses are added on top. Subtracting points already allocated gives the pool still free for your build. The average per level gained divides the full total by the levels gained, which shows how much quest rewards lift the effective rate.

When not to use it

  • Games whose award per level changes at set thresholds need one run per band.
  • Skill-tree or perk systems with separate currencies are not stat points.
  • Games that raise stats automatically on level-up have no points to allocate.

Common mistakes

  • Counting level 1 as a level-up, which adds one level too many.
  • Forgetting quest rewards that are repeated on each difficulty.
  • Entering points already spent as starting points, which counts them twice.

Frequently asked questions

Why does level 1 to 99 count as 98 levels?

A new character starts at level 1 without having levelled up. Points are awarded on reaching levels 2 through 99, which is 98 level-ups. Entering a start of 1 and a target of 99 handles this for you.

How many stat points does a Diablo II character get?

Five per level-up and five from the Lam Esen's Tome quest in Act 3 on each of Normal, Nightmare and Hell. At level 99 that is 490 from levels plus 15 from quests, 505 in total.

What if my game gives different points at higher levels?

Split the range at each change. For example, run levels 1 to 50 at 3 points and 50 to 80 at 5 points, then add the two totals. Put starting and bonus points into only one of the runs so they are not counted twice.

Can I use this to plan a respec?

Yes. After a respec every allocated point returns to the pool, so set points already spent to 0 and the total at your current level shows everything available to reassign.

Do equipment stat bonuses count?

No. Gear that adds strength or dexterity raises the stat directly but does not give allocatable points. Only enter items or consumables that grant points you place yourself.

What does the average points per level show?

It divides the full pool, including starting and bonus points, by the levels gained. Comparing it with the base award shows how much quests and items add per level. It reads 0 when the start and target levels are the same.
