Add the XP cost of every level-up between your current and target level, then subtract the XP you already have in the current level. In Minecraft Java Edition, going from level 0 to level 30 takes 1,395 experience points; on a custom curve starting at 100 XP and rising 50 XP per level, levels 1 to 5 cost 700 XP.

About this tool

Players grinding toward an enchanting threshold, a new skill tier or a raid requirement usually want one number: how much experience is left. This calculator sums each level-up cost from where you stand to where you want to be. Pick the vanilla Minecraft curve, or describe your game's own progression as a linear curve, where each level costs a fixed amount more than the last. Enter XP already earned in the current level and an optional reward per kill or quest, and it returns the remaining XP, the count of actions, a per-level table and a chart of the running total. Many RPGs use hand-tuned tables that do not follow a straight line exactly, so treat custom-curve results as estimates unless the game publishes its formula.

How to use it

  1. Choose the XP curve

Select Minecraft for vanilla Java Edition, or Linear to model another game's progression.

  2. Describe a custom curve

For Linear, set the cost of the first level-up and the extra XP each following level adds.

  3. Enter your levels

Type your current level, the XP already earned toward the next one, and the level you are aiming for.

  4. Add XP per action

Optionally enter the XP a typical kill, quest or craft gives to see how many you need.

Examples

Minecraft: 0 to level 30

Target level

Result XP still needed: 1,395
Level-ups to go: 30
XP to the next level: 7

Actions needed: —

  1. Per level L: 2L + 7 (L ≤ 15), 5L − 38 (16–30), 9L − 158 (31+).
  2. Sum of 30 level-ups from 0 to 30 = 1,395 XP.
  3. Minus 0 XP already earned = 1,395 XP.

Level 30 gives access to the strongest enchanting table offers. From a fresh start it takes 1,395 orb points.

XP to the next level: 100
Cost of the final level-up: 250
Actions needed: 24

  1. XP for level L → L+1 = 100 + 50 × (L − 1).
  2. Sum of 4 level-ups from 1 to 5 = 700 XP.
  3. Minus 0 XP already earned = 700 XP.
  4. 700 ÷ 30 XP per action, rounded up = 24 actions.

Level-ups cost 100, 150, 200 and 250 XP, so 700 XP in all, or 24 kills at 30 XP each.

Result XP still needed: 410
Level-ups to go: 3
XP to the next level: 60
Cost of the final level-up: 200
Actions needed: —

  1. XP for level L → L+1 = 100 + 50 × (L − 1).
  2. Sum of 3 level-ups from 1 to 4 = 450 XP.
  3. Minus 40 XP already earned = 410 XP.

Level-ups cost 100, 150 and 200 XP, 450 in all; 40 XP already banked leaves 410.

How it is calculated

XP needed = Σ cost(L) for L from current to target − 1, minus XP already earned

cost(L)
XP to go from level L to L + 1
Minecraft
2L + 7 for L ≤ 15, 5L − 38 for 16–30, 9L − 158 from 31
Linear
base + increment × (L − 1)

Each level-up has its own cost, so the calculator adds the costs one level at a time rather than using a single closed form. The Minecraft costs are the Java Edition values published on the Minecraft Wiki. For custom curves the first level-up (level 1 to 2) costs the base amount. Actions needed is the remaining XP divided by XP per action, rounded up, because a partial kill does not exist.

When not to use it

  • Games with hand-made XP tables that follow no formula need the official table instead.
  • Bedrock Edition orb values and modded Minecraft packs can differ from the Java curve.
  • Games where XP gain scales with your level make the actions count optimistic.

Common mistakes

  • Entering total lifetime XP in the field meant for XP earned inside the current level.
  • Starting a custom curve at level 0 when the game's first level-up is from level 1.
  • Entering the cost of level 2 as the increment instead of the difference between two level costs.

Frequently asked questions

How much XP does Minecraft level 30 take?

From level 0, reaching level 30 in Java Edition takes 1,395 experience points. Going from 29 to 30 alone costs 107 points, which is why the last few levels before a full enchant feel slow.

Why does each Minecraft level cost more than the last?

The per-level cost rises in three bands: 2 more per level up to 15, 5 more per level from 16 to 30, and 9 more per level after that. Dying drops most of it, so high levels are expensive to rebuild.

How do I find my game's per-level increment?

Subtract the XP for one level-up from the XP for the next. If level 4 to 5 costs 250 and level 5 to 6 costs 300, the increment is 50. Check two or three pairs; if the gap keeps changing, the game uses a table or a steeper curve and the linear result is only a rough guide.

What if the cost goes up by the same amount each level?

That is a linear curve. Enter the cost of the first level-up as the base and the fixed difference as the extra XP per level. A curve of 100, 150, 200 and 250 uses base 100 and increment 50.

Does XP already earned carry into the total?

Yes. The XP you have inside your current level is subtracted from the sum, so a player halfway through a 60-point level needs 30 fewer points than one who just levelled up.

How is the actions count worked out?

The remaining XP is divided by the XP one action gives and rounded up to a whole number. With 700 XP left and 30 XP per kill, 23.3 becomes 24 kills.

Why does the table skip some levels?

For spans over 100 levels the table and chart show every k-th level to stay readable. The headline total still adds every single level-up in the range.
