XP needed is the total XP at your target level minus the total XP you already hold. On the RuneScape skill table, level 99 sits at 13,034,431 XP, so a skill at level 1 still needs all of it. Add XP per action and the count of kills, crafts or quests appears beside it.

About this tool

Grinding goals are easier to plan when the gap is a number rather than a feeling. This calculator takes your current level, any XP you have already banked inside that level, and the level you are aiming for, then reports the XP still to earn, your share of the target total and a level-by-level table. It ships with the RuneScape skill experience table and the Minecraft Java player-level formulas, and a custom mode for any game that raises each level-up by a fixed amount of XP. Enter the XP one action gives and it also counts the actions. One limit: games with hand-tuned tables that follow no formula, or that change per class or season, will only be approximated by the custom curve.

How to use it

  1. Pick a levelling curve

Choose RuneScape skills, Minecraft levels, or Custom curve to set your own first level-up cost and the extra XP each later level adds.

  2. Enter where you are

Type your current level and, if you are part-way through it, the XP already earned inside that level.

  3. Set the goal

Enter the target level. It must be higher than the current one and inside the curve's range.

  4. Add XP per action

Optionally enter the XP one kill, quest or craft gives to see how many repetitions remain.

Examples

RuneScape skill from 1 to 99

Result XP still needed: 13,034,431
Total XP you have: 0
Total XP at target level: 13,034,431
Levels to gain: 98
Share of target XP reached: 0%
Actions needed: Enter XP per action

  1. Total XP at level 1 = 0
  2. Total XP at level 99 = 13,034,431
  3. XP needed = 13,034,431 − 0 = 13,034,431

A fresh skill needs the full table value; half of it is only reached at level 92.

  1. Total XP at level 0 = 0
  2. Total XP at level 30 = 1,395
  3. XP needed = 1,395 − 0 = 1,395

Level 30 unlocks the top enchanting-table offer and takes 1,395 orbs' worth of XP from zero.

Result XP still needed: 330

Total XP at target level: 330
Levels to gain: 3

Actions needed: 7

  1. Total XP at level 1 = 0
  2. Total XP at level 4 = 330
  3. XP needed = 330 − 0 = 330
  4. Actions = ⌈330 ÷ 50⌉ = 7

Three level-ups costing 100, 110 and 120 XP add to 330, so seven 50-XP quests cover it.

How it is calculated

XP needed = T(target) − (T(current) + earned); RuneScape T(L) = ⌊¼ Σ ⌊l + 300·2^(l/7)⌋⌋ for l = 1…L−1; custom T(L) = (L−1)·b + g·(L−1)(L−2)/2

T(L)
Total XP required to reach level L from the start
earned
XP already gained inside the current level
b
XP for the first level-up on a custom curve
g
Extra XP added to each successive level-up

Every curve is reduced to a cumulative total T(L). The RuneScape table is the published sum with floors applied at each step. Minecraft uses three quadratics: L² + 6L up to level 16, 2.5L² − 40.5L + 360 for 17–31, and 4.5L² − 162.5L + 2220 from 32. The custom curve is an arithmetic series. The gap is the target total minus what you hold, and actions are that gap divided by XP per action, rounded up.

When not to use it

  • Games whose XP tables are hand-tuned with irregular jumps will drift from the custom curve.
  • Bonus XP events, rested XP and boosters are not modelled, so real grinds can be shorter.
  • Bedrock Edition or older Minecraft versions used different level formulas.

Common mistakes

  • Entering total lifetime XP in the field meant for XP earned inside the current level.
  • Using the Minecraft curve with level 1 as the start; Minecraft players begin at level 0.
  • Entering the cost of a later level as the first level-up cost on a custom curve.

Frequently asked questions

How much XP is level 99 in RuneScape?

Level 99 in a RuneScape skill requires 13,034,431 total XP. Level 92 needs 6,517,253, which is almost exactly half, so the last seven levels cost as much as the first ninety-one combined.

How much XP does Minecraft level 30 take?

From level 0, reaching level 30 in Java Edition takes 1,395 XP using the formula 4.5L² − 162.5L + 2220 for levels 32 and up and 2.5L² − 40.5L + 360 for 17–31. Level 30 falls in the middle band, which gives 2,250 − 1,215 + 360 = 1,395.

What does extra XP per level do on a custom curve?

It adds a fixed amount to each successive level-up. With a first step of 100 XP and 10 extra per level, the steps cost 100, 110, 120, 130 and so on, so the cumulative total grows with the square of the level.

Why is the actions count rounded up?

You cannot perform part of a kill or quest, and stopping one action short leaves you below the level. Dividing 330 XP by 50 gives 6.6, so seven actions are needed.

Can the table show every level?

For gaps up to 100 levels every level gets a row. Longer gaps are sampled at an even interval to keep the table readable, and the final target level is always included; the XP figures themselves are exact.

Does it account for XP already earned in my current level?

Yes. The optional field adds that XP to the total for your current level before subtracting, and it must be less than the cost of finishing that level, otherwise you would already be one level higher.
